Restart the Windows Explorer

Most of the time, this error is caused by the workability issues of the Windows Explorer and it is quite possible the same thing is happening on your system. Now, to fix this issue, you need to restart the Windows Explorer properly and to do that, follow the given instructions.

  1. Press the Ctrl+ Alt + Del key together to open the Task Manager.
  2. Then, in the Task Manager window, you need to tap on the Processes tab. Inside that tab, find and select the Windows Explorer option and then right-click on it. A pop-up menu will come up on the screen. On that menu, you need to click on the End task option.
  3. After doing that, go to the top right corner of the window and click on the File option. A drop-down menu will come up on the screen. In that menu, you will get the Run New Task option. Click on it.
  4. Instantly a dialog box will come up on the screen. On that box, you need to type explorer.exe and then hit the Enter key or OK button.  
  5. Now, you have to open the Common prompt window. To do that, press the Windows key + X key simultaneously. This will launch the WinX menu on the screen. In that menu, you will find the Command Prompt (Admin) option. Click on it.
  6. The Command Prompt window will pop-up on the screen. There, you need to type “slmgr -rearm”  and then hit the Enter key.

Once you have done that, close everything, reboot your system and check whether the error message is still appearing on your system or not.

Edit the Local Group Policy

Now, if the above-mentioned solution doesn’t work for you, then try to edit the Local Group Policy in order to remove this error from your system. And to do that, follow the provided instructions.

  1. Press and Hold the Windows key + R key to open the Run Dialog Box. Then type “gpedit.msc” on it and hit the Enter key or OK button.
  2. After that, the Local Group Policy Editor window will appear on the screen. Now, on the left side of that window, you need to follow the given path of search:  


Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update.

  1. Once you enter in the Windows Update folder, you will get to see a list of Setting options on the right side of the window. From that list, you need to locate and select the “No auto-restart with logged-on users for scheduled automatic updates installations” option and then double-click on it.
  2. Instantly, a pop-up prompt will appear on the screen. In that pop-up window, you need to fill the box beside the Enabled option and then click on the OK button.

After doing that, reboot your system and try to look for the error message.

Disable Specific Services

A few Windows 10 users have reported that by disabling certain Services of the OS, they are able to eliminate this error from their system. And it might be possible that the same trick works for you also. To test this error removal trick on your system, follow the provided steps.

  1. First, launch the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows key + R key together. Then type “services.msc.” on it and hit the Enter key or OK button.
  2. Now, the Services window will appear on the screen of your system. On that window, you need to locate the “Windows License Manager Service” option and then double-click on it. This will open up a pop-up window on the screen.
  3. In that window, you need to click on the Stop option if the Service status of that option is Running.
  4. After doing that, select the box next to the Startup Type option and set it as Disabled and then hit the OK button.
  5. Now, go back to the Service windows and find the Windows Update option. Then double-click on it in order to open its Properties window.
  6. Inside that window, click on the Stop option and then set the Startup Type option as Disabled.

Once you have done that, save all the changes by clicking on the Apply and OK button and then reboot your system. After the reboot, verify the existence of the error message.

Re-enter Your Product Key

Sometimes, the Windows deletes the activation license of the OS after a major update. And on those situations, users encounter the “Your windows license will expire soon” warning message even though their OS is already activated. Now, if the same thing is happening on your system, then follow the given instructions to fix it.

  1. Open up the WinX menu by hitting the Windows key + X key together. Then you need to click on the Command Prompt (Admin) option. By doing this, you will able to launch the Command Prompt window in the Administrator mode.
  2. In the Command Prompt window, type “wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey” and hit the Enter key. Instantly, the product key of your Windows OS will come up on the window. Copy and paste it down into the Notepad application.
  3. After doing that, open the Setting app by simultaneously pressing the Windows key + I key.
  4. In the Setting window, click on the Update & Security option to enter into its window.
  5. Now, in that window, first, you need to click on the  Activation Tab and the hit the Change product key option.
  6. A new pop-up window will appear on the screen. On that window, enter that product key which you get from the Command Prompt window and then hit the Next button.

Now, your Windows OS will get activated again and this will eliminate this error message from your system.

Modify the Registry

Apart from the previously mentioned method, you can also remove this error by modifying the Registry files of the Windows OS. However, we will only recommend this method if you have a genuine copy of the Windows OS. Now, to perform this method on your system, you have to follow the given instructions.

  1. Launch the Run Dialog box and type “regedit“ on it. Then hit the OK button or Enter key.
  2. Now, the Registry Editor window will open up on the screen. There, you need to click on the File option and then select the Export option.
  3. Instantly, a new pop-up box will come up on the screen. In that box, you need to click on the All option which will be present underneath the Export range section. Then specify a proper export location and click on the Save button.
  4. After doing that, open the WinX menu and select the Command Prompt (Admin) option. The Command Prompt window will appear on the screen.
  5. In the Command Prompt window, you need to type the following command lines and then hit the Enter key.


reg add “HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Software Protection Platform” /v NoGenTicket /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

Now, you just need to reboot your system and then check the existence of the error message

Use the Activation Troubleshoot Tool

The Activation troubleshoot is an inbuilt error removal tool which is mainly used for those issues which are related to the Windows Activation. And, you can use this tool to fix this error message. To run this tool on your system follow the provided steps.

  1. Press the Windows key + I key together in order to open the Setting app on your system.
  2. Then, in the Setting window, click on the Update & Security option.
