There are several reasons for receiving an error message while upgrading or installing Windows 10. However, there are some common errors which are easily solvable. Therefore in this article, we will provide you a handful of reasons why the Windows 10 will not install in your PC and its probable fixes.

Windows 10 will not install: Shoot It Off With the Windows Update Troubleshooter-

There can be a huge problem with the update and fixes due to which Windows 10 will not install in your PC.

Fix: Update the Windows Troubleshooter-

Windows 10 contains a troubleshooter that can identify and can solve problems related to updates and patches. If you are not at all clear about the issue, go ahead by running this troubleshooter.

Basic Troubleshooting Steps-

  1. Move to the search box and just write “Troubleshoot”. Choose the “TROUBLESHOOT” option from the System Settings.
  2. Then, you will find a new troubleshooting window. The first section that is “Get up and Running” you will get an option for “Windows Update”. Choose that.
  3. A new button must appear which implies “Run the troubleshooter”. Choose it to kick-start the troubleshooter and observe how it works for you.
  4. Then, a new troubleshooter window will be available as Windows 10 scans for various problems. If it finds any missing update then you will receive a notification and will ask you to “Apply this Fix” or “Skip this Fix”. However, if you are trying to resolve the update, then it is advisable to select the “Apply” option.

When the entire process is done, the troubleshooter will provide a handful of problems that are found and fixed. Therefore, at that point, you can stop this program. If the troubleshooter doesn’t resolve important issues, you need to try and update the fix again.

Low Disk Space-

Windows 10 needs a bit of available disk space if you want to install. The 32 version of the OS used in tablets and less costly laptops requires 16GB available space. The 64-bit version requires up to 20 GB data. You might require an additional 4 GB for the installation purpose if you are installing from a file stored inside your computer.

If your storage drive is full, you will require some time to make room.

Fix: Clear the unwanted files-

The fastest way to do so is to remove the space dominating programs. Robust 3D games and several packages, for example, Adobe Creative Suite occupies huge space.

  • Therefore, uninstall them and always keep a backup of the saved files.
  • Don’t panic, just install it again from the installation discs. Otherwise, you can also download when the Windows 10 is ready.
  • If you want more space, then simply remove the files in the following order: video files, audio files, images, then documents, and then other files.
  • Just use an external USB hard drive to resolve this- simply delete any of the files that to the external media and will get restored once installation of Windows 10 is done.
  • Later, undo the expunged files from the Recycle Bin. Otherwise, you can also execute a program to clear the browser caches, logs, and other items that occupy more disk space.
  • However, to check that progress press the Start button. Write “This PC” and press the result.

Iso Image Issues-

It might happen that your media itself is corrupt if you use Microsoft Media Creation Tool to make a bootable USB drive for installation of Windows 10. This might end up with the damaged installation. However, it’s very difficult to change the files once written to the disc or drive.

Fix: Run the tool-

  • You just have to run the tool again to install Windows 10.
  • However, it might urge you to access from another laptop or launch the previous version of windows after some time.
  • If the same issue persists after making several attempts, then it is a hardware issue. The CD/DVD burner sometimes have defected. Therefore, try to use a different USB driver.

Error Codes-

You may observe that while the Windows installation process is going on, the program may stop and can throw an error code. There are uncountable error codes and all of them are with potential issues. The effective solution to combat this is to write down the code. Because you will not have the permission to directly copy this from the display screen. Then, make a thorough search on the internet to find the main problem and hopefully, there will be a solution.

Steps to take if you don’t have proper information about a particular error code

  1. Unplug any useless device from your PC. like flash drives and modems. Nothing should be plugged in except for the power cord. And for the desktop, there should only be keyboard, mouse and monitor attached.
  2. While using desktops, disconnect the useless internal hardware. If your computer contains integrated graphics card or sound card, take out the standalone cards. Disconnect the secondary storage drives, disc drives, card readers, and surplus hardware like fan controller or USB linked to a PCI port.
  3. However, if you are upgrading your P.C and choose a standard one that protects your program, delete the useless programs just before the commencement of the installation. During the upgrade process, the anti-virus programs and the game controls face problems.
  4. When the Windows upgrade is incomplete, or if you have any issue with the startup, you may wish to disable hibernation. Therefore, you can perform this task by writing “ powercfg/h off” in a Command Prompt Window.
  5. Otherwise, just install the operating system “cleanly” that reserves your personal programs without other programs. To achieve that, select “Custom: Install Windows” in place of “Upgrade” while setup is going on. However, you can reinstall your programs afterward. Therefore, these are some of the important steps that resolve the “Windows 10 will not install” issue.

Incompatible Hardware-

Windows 10 works on different types of hardware, containing Atom-based tablets and several low power systems. However, it has some specific needs. If your Computer is built with a processor of speed less than 1 GHz or RAM less than 1 GB for the 32-bit version, then the setup wizard will not permit you to do the installation. Desktop users can sometimes upgrade their RAM to the latest versions.

Please refer to the user manual to know how much RAM you really require.
