Solution 1 – Correct the Password for the Network

This error message generally appears if the network password is incorrect on your Android device.

  1. At first, tap on the Settings icon on your Android phone to open it.
  2. From the Settings window, locate the WiFi, tap on it. 
  3. Next, select the WiFi network name that is showing the error and then tap on the Forget the network button.
  4. Then, select the WiFi network and then type the password in the password field. After that, tap on the Connect button to connect it.

If the error message still appears, then go and verify the router settings to confirm the password. 

  1. Open a web browser from the computer.
  2. Next, go to the router login page and then put the Username and Password to access the login page.
  3. In that window, navigate to Wireless and then select the Security button on the left panel. 
  4. From the Security window, you need to check the password and then put it on your Android device. Now you will see the WiFi network has got properly connected. 

After completing these steps, restart the device and then check if the WiFi connects accurately without any error message.  

Solution 2 – Turn On Airplane Mode 

Activating airplane mode will deactivate the device connectivity completely. You can do this easily by changing the notification bar on the main screen and clicking on the Airplane Mode option.

If you do not have this option, you must go to your mobile settings or use the on / off switch to enter airplane mode.

You need to wait for 40 seconds after turning on the airplane mode and then turn it off the same way. After this, you need to try to connect to the WiFi network.

Solution 3 – Reset the Networking Settings

Incorrect networking settings can also cause the WiFi Authentication Error on the device. So, you need to reset the networking settings. To do that, follow the steps given below:

  1. Open the Settings of your phone and tap on the Backup and Reset button.
  2. From the Backup and Reset window, scroll down the page until you find Reset network settings button, tap on it.
  3. In the next window, you will see a confirmation page to appear. Tap on the Reset Settings button. 

Once the process is complete, reboot the Android device and then connect to the WiFi network again.

Solution 4 – Configure IP Address

Sometimes, this error appears if the IP address is incorrect. If such is the case, the router will not allow you to access the internet. So, you need to configure the IP address from the device. Go through these steps:

  1. Launch the Settings window by tapping on the Settings icon.
  2. From the Settings window, find the WiFi button, tap on it.
  3. In the WiFi window, select the WiFi network name that is showing the error and then tap on the Modify Settings button.
  4. When the Modify Settings window opens, select the IP settings and then tap on Static.
  5. Next, modify the IP address and then save it. Once you are done with these steps, connect the WiFi and then check if the problem is eliminated or not.  

Solution 5 – Update the Android Software

Updating the Android software can also get rid of the Wifi “Authentication Error Occurred” message on the device. 

So, at first, you need to check whether the device is up to date or not. If not, then you need to update it. To update the software, follow the steps cited below:

  1. First of all, tap on Settings.
  2. In the Settings section, scroll down the page until you find the About Phone tab, tap on it.
  3. From the About Phone window, locate the System updates button, tap on it. 
  4. If an update is available, then tap on the Update button. 

After completing the update process, restart the device and then check if the problem still occurs or not. 

Solution 6 – Factory Reset your Android Device

Performing a factory reset can solve this problem on your Android device. The following steps will help you:

  1. Launch the Settings window of your Android device.
  2. Once you are in the Settings window, go to the Backup & Reset section and then tap on the Factory data reset button.

Once done, the device will automatically restart and then try to connect to the WiFi.
