3. The Device Manager will then open and then double-click on the USB controllers option and then, select the ‘USB Composite Device’ option to choose the ‘Update Driver Software.’
4. Lastly, click on “Search automatically” option to look for the latest updates and then update the driver software.
5. When the wizard pops up, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process. Now, reboot your computer and check if you are still encountering the glitch.


Solution 2.  Use System File Checker Tool

You can also use the System file checker tool to figure out the missing or corrupted Windows files including the DLLs. Go through the following steps to know the ways to run SFC scan on your PC.

1. First, you need to click on the Start menu and then in the search box, type “cmd”.
2. Now, right-click on the Command Prompt option and then, click on Run as administrator option. You need to click on Yes when you are prompted by the User Account Control.
3. Now, you need to enter the sfc /scannow command in the blank box. Then, hit the Enter button.
4. Now, wait until the process completes. Restart your system and check if the error resolves.


Solution 3. Try Windows PowerShell

However, you can also use the PowerShell to fix the Windows shell common DLL has stopped working error. To implement the process, follow the steps given below:

  1. Click on the Start menu and then in the search box, you need to type PowerShell.
  2. Now, you need to right-click on Windows PowerShell and then choose the Run as Administrator option.
  3. When you are prompted with the User Account Control, click on the Yes option.
  4. Now, you need to enter the Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Scope CurrentUser command in the box. Tap the Enter key right after entering it.

5. When the process ends, close all the windows and then reboot your system.
