If you are facing a similar problem then, you can read the following section to fix the issue.

Get Easy Fixes For Windows Not Updating

If you are facing update issues then you can follow the fixes to resolve the issue. But, before downloading updates you must check that you have a proper working connection.

Run Windows Update Troubleshooter

Windows 10 has an inbuilt troubleshooter that will help you to resolve all the Windows update not working problems. You can search for Troubleshooting and open it from the search menu. Otherwise, you can open the Control Panel and then select ‘System and Security’. Now, you have to select “Fix Problems with Windows Update.” Now, click on the Advanced tab and Run as Administrator. Thereafter, click on Next. This will detect problems and start the repair process. After the troubleshooting process is finished Windows will report the results to users. Now try to install the updates and see if Windows is working or not.

Clear Updates Download Folder

You can also try to clear the updates download folder and see if it fixes the problem. First of all, open the Run window by pressing Windows Key and R together. Now, type the address “C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download” and then click on OK. Delete all the files that are stored in this folder. Simply press CTRL + A and then the Delete button. When you have successfully deleted the files, simply restart the computer and try to install the Windows 10 updates. Now see if you still face the same problem when updating Windows 10.

Disable The Antivirus

It can happen that the third-party antivirus might be blocking the Windows server to download the updates. So, you can try to disable the antivirus software and see if you still face the Windows update not working problem. You can disable the antivirus from the taskbar. Click on the icon to expand and right-click on the antivirus software and disable it.
Now update the Windows and see if you still face the same error. However, do not forget to enable the antivirus as it is responsible for protecting the computer against malware and virus.

Use Media Creation Tools

If you still can’t update Windows 10 then, you can use the Windows creation tool. By using the Windows creation tool, you can easily create the Windows 10 installation files. This is an alternate method to force an upgrade. You can download the Media Creation Tools from the official Microsoft website. After downloading, you have to open it. In this window, select the option “Upgrade this PC now” and then click on Next. Lastly, click on the Install option and restart the computer. Now check for updates and see if the Windows Update stuck error is resolved.

Manually Register The Dll Files

You can also try to manually install the DLL files and check the error. If you have installed a new application and after that, you are experiencing the problem then, you can use System Restore. With System Restore, you can easily restore the system to the point at which the computer was working properly. Follow the steps given below.
1.  Clear up your Temporary Files folder, and Cookies folder & reboot. After that try to update your Windows OS.
2. Open the Command Prompt and Run as Administrator. Then, type the following commands one by one.
net stop wuauserv
net stop bits
Go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution >  delete all.
In the next step, restart the device. Now type the following commands one by one:
net start wuauserv
net start bits
3. Run system file checker.
4. Re-register the following DLL files manually.
Now check if the problem still persists.

Free Up Disk Space

You can also try to free up the disk space. Insufficient disk space can result in Windows update not working.  The updates that are installed occupy memory on the computer. If the memory is low then, Windows won’t be able to install the updates. So, you can free up the memory and see if you still face this error message.

Alternate Solution

If none of the solutions work then, you can manually download the updates from the Microsoft website. But before that, you have to change the automatic updates to manual updates. Go to the Control Panel and then click on Windows Update. Now go to “Change Settings” and under the ‘Important Updates’ select “Never check for updates” and then click on OK and save the settings. Restart the computer. Visit the official Microsoft website and download the updated patches.
Now open the run menu and type “Services.msc” and press the Windows key and R. Locate the “Windows Update” and then click on ‘Stop’. Thereafter, delete the Software Distribution folder. Now go to the location and install the Windows update files.
We hope that these solutions have helped you to fix the Windows not updating problem.
